Rainbow Days: Reuniting Rod, Jane and Freddy

In a response to America's Sesame Street in the early 1970s, the UK's ITV network launched a series of lunchtime kids shows aimed at young children. All the big ITV regions got in on the act. ATV brought us Pipkins, Yorkshire Television a show called Mr Trimble, Hickory House came from Granada TV and from the new weekday London franchise Thames Television, came Rainbow.

One of the most popular elements of Rainbow was a song and dance trio called Rod, Jane and Freddy and here MIM's Ashley Byrne catches up with them almost five decades on from the launch of one of the most popular kids shows ever.

The legendary Tom Edwards, long time voice of Thames TV, makes a special appearance too - and Zippy and George grace us with their presence courtesy of puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew. To contact Ronnie you can tweet him @Punchand

A big thank you to Rod, Jane and Freddy for permission to use their music.

This Rod, Jane and Freddy Reunion is part of a four part series looking back at kids daytime TV favourites. For a full rundown of what's coming up, listen to the promo teaser below these episodes.
